WESTBOROUGH - Bette D. (Melnikoff) Massad, 88, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, February 3rd with her husband and children gathered by her bedside. Bette was born Bette D. Melnikoff, one of ten children of Nathan and Minnie (Jenkins) Melnikoff. She grew up in Worcester, graduating from Commerce High School. Six years later, in 1949, Bette married David "Duddie" Massad with whom she has shared life, love and family these past 64 years. Bette and David settled in Leicester to raise their family, moving to Westborough in 1982. They have lived there ever since. Bette was all about family. She loved her home, devoted herself to her family and took great pride in the successes of her husband, children and grandchildren. A simple quiet woman she supported her husband as he grew their businesses. Bette was a dedicated mother to her children: Pamela Massad, Christine Mandara and her husband David, David Massad and his wife Lisa. Bette leaves seven grandchildren who adored "Nana": Emily, Katherine, Ryan, Jonathan, Rachel, Annie and Theodora "Teddie". Bette also leaves behind her three brothers, Kenneth, Noah and Harold Melnikoff as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Several people she dearly loved in her life predeceased her: her grandson, Gregory Mandara in 2009, brother Martin, and sisters Isabelle O'Connor, Ruth Cutroni, Hazel Chaplin, Beatrice Mandela and Muriel Hall. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the Massad family, today, Wednesday February 5th from 3 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Planation Street. Her funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, February 6 at 11:00 am at the First Unitarian Church, 90 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
