Frank J. Corio, of Harwich, formerly of Worcester passed away Tuesday January 28th at home. Frank was born in Worcester, one of nine children of Italian immigrants Gaetano and Adelaide (Ranucci) Corio. He grew up in the Italian section of Worcester, Shrewsbury Street, and educated in Worcester Public Schools. Frank then entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving his country proudly as a Naval Aviation Mechanic. He returned to the family home on Shrewsbury Street to raise his family until moving to Harwich on Cape Cod in 2003. Frank began his working career learning to operate heavy equipment for his brothers at Corio Bros Construction. He then joined the International Brotherhood of operating engineers Local 4 in Boston, operating heavy equipment for his family as well as many construction companies around the Northeast before retiring. Frank is survived by his wife of 38 years, Paula (Mros) Corio; two children, Linda Mendez and her husband Angel in Puerto Rico and Stephen Corio of Worcester; a sister, Congetta Ditaranto of Auburn; four grandchildren; his best friends and pets Emma and Max; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends around New England. Four brothers, Orlando "Ollie" , John, Patrick and Thomas Corio and three sisters, Antoinette Baroni, Stella Piccarelli, and Gilda Ritacco all pre deceased them. Frank's passion beyond his wife Paula was the beach, the ocean, fishing and sailing his boat on Cape Cod. Nothing made him more satisfied then being on Nantucket Sound or Buzzards Bay with a breeze, his boat and fishing pole. The peace and solitude of those moments he cherished. He also loved to golf, travel often to Barbados, Las Vegas and Disney with Paula. He found enjoyment watching Cowboy movies, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Frank was a member of the Eastside Improvement Club and the former Indian Meadows Country Club. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Sunday, February 2nd from 2 pm to 4 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Monday, February 3rd from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Entombment with Naval Military Honors will follow in St. John Mausoleum.
