Sharon L. Alston Haywood, 54, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014, in The Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Sharon leaves her son, Kadeem Alston Prince; her husband, Kenneth Haywood, both of Charlotte; two brothers, William "Billy" A. Alston and Bruce A. Alston and his wife Ariadna all of Worcester; five sisters, Phyllis "Mitzie" Alston and her life partner Frances Loscocco, Brenda Jenkins and her husband Gilbert, Sandra Alafberg and her husband John, Lori Alston and Alphonso Chavis, all of Worcester, and Lisa Alston of New York City; her father in law, Walter Haywood of Florida and her mother in law, Odell Haywood of Newton, MA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Sharon was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Alphonso and Adelaide (Price) Alston. Sharon grew up in the Worcester area and graduated from Ayer-Shirley Regional High School. She worked in the Worcester School Department Administrative Offices for over twelve years, before she retired and moved to Charlotte. She was a member of Covenant-Saint Andrew United Methodist Church, while living in Worcester and was a member of Life Center International in Charlotte. Sharon will be remembered for her rich faith and strong loving presence. She cared deeply, within her heart, for the spirituality of those around her; and those who knew her will remember fondly, her daily "Citizens of The Kingdom" messages. Sharon loved her family and was known to have a heart of gold; but she is most known for the love and her pride she had in her son, Kadeem. Calling Hours and Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 1, in Covenant-Saint Andrew United Methodist Church, 24 Hamilton Street, Worcester, with Calling Hours from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon, followed immediately by her Funeral Service at Noon. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Covenant-Saint Andrew, 24 Hamilton Street, Worcester 01604.
