Michael O. Vacca, 94, of Laconia NH, a lifelong educator; formerly of Plymouth NH and Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, January 26th 2014 with family gathered beside him after a period of declining health. Michael one of eight children of James D. and Michelina (Ciccone) Vacca was born in Worcester. A studious man, Michael, graduated from Worcester Public Schools and went on to study education at Worcester State College earning a Bachelor's of Science and Master Degree in Education. He then went on to pursue a degree in advanced education studies at Plymouth State College. Michael began his career in education by accepting positions as an English Teacher for the Shrewsbury and Northborough School systems. He then moved to Plymouth NH and taught English for 16 years before retiring in 1982. Always interested in History and a member of the New Hampshire Historical Society, Michael co-authored several books in genealogy with several volumes on cemetery inscriptions in central NH. He remained a resident of Plymouth until moving to Laconia several years ago. Mike was a member and past president of the Plymouth NH education Association and the National Education Association. He was a former member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. Uncle Mike was loved and cherished by his family whenever he was with them. His calm demeanor, quick wit and abundant sense of humor lite up any room he entered. Michael never married, but remained a significant member of a large Italian family. Uncle Mike is survived by his many nieces and nephews; his extended family and many friends in New Hampshire and the Worcester area. Three brothers, Daniel, George and James F. "Frank" Vacca Sr, and four sisters, Anna Balsamo, Mae Ezen, Josephine Bello and Mathilda "Tillie" Sargentelli all pre deceased him. Michael's funeral will be held Thursday, January 30th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St Worcester, with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St where his Mass of celebration will be held at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 11:00 am to 12 noon prior to departing for church.
