Joan L. Castagna, 78, of Holden passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, surrounded by her family in the home she shared with 3 siblings: Rita, Jean and Louis. Joan was born to the late Rudolph and Immaculata (Piscitelli) Castagna of Worcester. She is survived by 9 siblings: Albert Castagna of Shrewsbury, Gloria McCauley of Holden, Gensie Bouffard of Keene, NH, her beloved twin sister Jean Feild of Holden, Rose Lucier of Milford, Frances Perrone of Worcester, Louis Castagna of Holden , Rita Castagna of Holden, and Anthony Castagna of South Carolina and by many sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by Luigi and Rudolph Jr. of Worcester, Julia Pierce of Penns Grove, NJ, and Beato Castagna of Keene, NH. She lived most of her life in Worcester before moving to Holden fifteen years ago. Joan worked as an office assistant for many years at Brierly-Lombard, CMEA, Norton Company, and Raytheon Co. before she retired. She enjoyed working and remained actively involved with her job until she turned 75. Reading the latest suspense and romance novels kept her busy in retirement. She loved visiting with relatives at family gatherings; all knew her as a devoted sister, beloved aunt and dear friend. Joan's family would like to thank the Holy Trinity Hospice. It was their care, compassion and love that made Joan and her family comfortable in her final days. Calling hours for Joan will be held on Wednesday, January 29, from 5 to 7p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her funeral mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester.
