Rose (DeFuedis) Dintino, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 25, 2014 a few days after celebrating her 104th birthday with family and friends. There was an inner strength in Rose that kept her going, a sense of determination that prevented her from giving in to the aging process and a strong faith as a devout Catholic that gave her confidence to keep moving forward as if her time here on earth was unlimited. When her husband of over 50 years, Carmine "Charlie" Dintino died in 1986 Rose continued to manage the home they built together, with a network of extended family and her wonderfully supportive neighbors, Don and Elaine, until she was almost 100. Rose's home was always immaculate and ready for visitors with a pot of coffee and homemade Italian cookies. Friends and family will miss her tireless energy, her generous spirit and her strong will. Rose was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose (Rubino) DeFuedis. A life long resident of Worcester, Rose worked in several factories during WWII to support the war effort and in later years worked at New England Telephone before she retired. Rose was very active in her church. A lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church, she was a member of the Golden Ages Club and the Women's Guild, Our Lady of Sorrows Women's Society, the Worcester Lodge #168 Sons of Italy in America and chairman of the Figlie D'Abruzzo Society. For many years Rose also attended the first Friday masses at Christ the King Church, bringing a freshly baked cake and cookies. Always active, Rose enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends. She loved to knit, crochet, cook and bake. Rose is survived by her son Thomas Dintino and his wife Theresa of Worcester; a brother Dr. Michael Lategola and his wife Barbara of Norman, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law Russell Wigren, five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her son Michael Dintino, a Worcester Police Officer; a grandson Joseph and four sisters Lucy Wigren, Italia Tarallo, Grace Rahaim, and Mary Shattuck. The family wants to thank the dedicated staff at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their love and compassion. Rose's funeral will be held on Wednesday January 29, at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to church. Interment will be with her husband in St. Johns Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
