John E. Martellotta, of Auburn passed away peacefully Tuesday January 14th 2014 surrounded by his family and loved ones, after a brief period of declining health. John was born in Worcester, one of five children of John and Maria (Panarelli) Martellotta. He grew up in Worcester and joined the Massachusetts National Guard during the Korean Conflict. John then married and lived many years in North Grafton before moving to Auburn 14 years ago. John owned and operated John's Barber Shop in Shrewsbury for over 20 years before retiring in 1969. He then worked for Riccardi Construction, before accepting a position as manager of Mass Transport Inc. in Shrewsbury for the next 15 years. John's wife of 36 years Elaine. (Remillard) Martellotta passed away in 2009; He leaves his four daughters, Maureen Kane and her husband Michael of Florida, Margaret Connolly and Maria Keevan of Worcester, Michelle Campbell and her husband Gary in Tenn; a stepson, Jay Rubaszko and his wife Kathy of Shrewsbury; a brother Mario Martellotta of Shrewsbury; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A daughter, Mary, brother Cosmo and sisters, Jennie Martellotta and Ann Belsito all pre deceased him. John was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and the Auburn Order of Elks. John was very active as a member of the Worcester County Senior Athletic Association for 20 years, where he participated in Volley Ball, Candlepin Bowling, and softball as a member of the Championship Senior Softball team "The Old News Bears" Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Friday, January 17th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Saturday, January 18th from the Funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry where his Mass of celebration will be held at 10:30 am. Burial with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 33 Speen St, Framingham 01720.
