Mary G. (McMahon) Prunier, 93, of Worcester passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 surrounded by her loving family after a short period of declining health. Her husband of 57 years and love of her life, Joseph A. Prunier, died in 2000. Mary was born in Worcester, one of six children of Mary (McGuirk) and William McMahon. She graduated from Commerce High in 1939 and earned her degree from the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Mary was a dedicated registered nurse, working at City Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital and in private duty. She is survived by her devoted children, Susan M. Mullan and her husband John of Worcester, Mary Lou Madden of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four granddaughters whom she adored, Jennifer Toland and her husband James of Walpole, Rebecca Kapur and her husband Jay of Worcester, Melissa M. Madden and her husband Keith Pitts, and Courtney Madden and her husband Derek Comer, all of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Joseph M. and Patrick J. Kapur, Isabella and Gabriella Pitts and Ava Comer; a brother Edward McMahon and a sister Lillian Scavone; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Two brothers, William and John McMahon and a sister, Ellen Carlson predeceased her. Mary was a woman of strong faith and member of St. Stephen's Church. She was a member of the Worcester City Hospital Alumni Association and the Massachusetts Nurses Association. Mary was a remarkable lady and nothing in life made her happier than spending time with her cherished family at gatherings and special functions. She most enjoyed going to church with Susan on Sundays, shopping, going out to dinner, traveling, trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, reading, embroidery and watching New England Patriots games. Mary's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Worcester Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for making the final weeks of her life so comfortable and to the staff at UMass Memorial Hospital -- Memorial Campus' critical care unit for making her last hours so peaceful. Her funeral will be celebrated Thursday, January 9th from The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 11:30 am in St Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial next to her husband will follow in St. John's Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 Thursday at the funeral home.
