Genevieve M. (Bigos) Mirante, 84, of Worcester passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 with her devoted family gathered beside her. Genevieve was born in Worcester one of three children to Polish parents, Joseph and Mary (Starsiak) Bigos. She grew up in Worcester, and attended St. Mary's High School. In 1947, she married Salvatore A. Mirante and settled in the Grafton Hill section of Worcester to raise her family and has resided there all her life. Genevieve, known as Jean by her family and friends, worked for many years at the Hill Envelope Company. She then worked more than 40 years caring for the priests as the housekeeper of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, walking a short distance to work from her home on most days before retiring. Genevieve's husband of 34 years, Salvatore A. Mirante passed away in 1981. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Laura M. Covello and son-in-law, Samuel J. Covello, Jr. of Worcester. She cherished the time she had with her two grandsons, Christopher M. Covello, OD and Domenic A. Covello, OD and his wife, Laura E. Covello, NP. She leaves her brother, Joseph L. Bigos, nieces including Lucia Bennett, nephew Thomas Bennett, extended family and friends. Her sister, Sally Bennett passed away in 2011. Genevieve was a kind and gentle soul who always thought of her loved ones above all else. She lived to see the graduations of her grandsons from optometry school. Genevieve's family holds on tenderly to her memory. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, January 7th from 5 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Wednesday January 8th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in St. John's Church, 44 Temple Street. Burial next to her husband will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
