Walter E Jones

Walter E. Jones, a longtime Worcester resident passed away peacefully Thursday, December 26th 2013 after a brief illness. Walter is survived by his family; two sons, Evan Jones, Keith Johnson and his son Anyah; his mother, Hazel L. (Hampton) Jones all of Worcester; four sisters, Pamela R. Jones, Janice L. Jones-Storms and Patricia A. Jones all of Fresno, California and Wanda B. Gore of Martinez, California; his wife, Gloria Johnson-jones, and former wife, Dawn Shropshire; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Walter was born in Worcester; his father was the late William B. "Willie" Jones. He graduated from Doherty High School where he was a standout AAU Champion in Track notably the High Jump where he held a record. He also in his youth, loved to play basketball. He was a member of the All-stars team at All Saints Church Walter was also a Boy Scout, who earned many badges including the Eagle Scout badge. He loved sports, especially the New England Patriots. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2nd at 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 10:30 am to the time of the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
