Lando "Lanny" L. Catino, 93, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at home. Mr. Catino is survived by his wife, Angela and his daughter Pamela Catino with whom he lived, and his daughter Cindy and her husband Dr. Russ Krausser of Boston, two sisters, Yolanda Lombardi and her husband Dominic of Boylston and Millie Ann DeLoriea of Oxford, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Also, two special caregivers, Sonia and Maureen. He is predeceased by seven brothers, Joseph, John, Michael, Francesco, Victor, Anthony, and William Catino and a sister, Jeanette Turnstall. Mr. Catino was born in Worcester, a son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Ciccone) Catino and lived here all his life. He owned and operated L.Catino Construction for many years. He was passionate about his work, believing that hard work and staying active was the key to a long life. He also truly enjoyed working outdoors. He continued to tinker with cars and trucks well into his retirement. He was very proud to have served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, stationed in England, during World War II. He loved sharing stories about these times as well as life growing up in the "good, old days" in Worcester. He enjoyed traveling, especially visiting Florida, where he lived for several winters after the war years. But, his greatest love was his family. He was very devoted to his wife of 59 years, and his two daughters who also shared caring for him in his later years. He was happiest when all were home with him, enjoying Italian dinners and simple times together, as well as fun Cape Cod family vacations and taking mom and girls shopping. He was courageous in his will to live as fully as possible after his stroke. He will sadly be missed by his family and friends. Lando's funeral will be held Wednesday November 6th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Burial with Military honors will follow in St John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9 am to 10:30 am at the funeral home prior to leaving for church.
