Addolorata "Dora" (Martone) Smarra, of Worcester passed away peacefully with family gathered beside her on October 20, 2103. She was 81. Addolorata, affectionately known as Dora was born in San Nicola La Strada, province of Caserta Italy, the youngest of four daughters of Salvatore and Concetta (Grilla) Martone. She grew up in San Nicola La Strada, met and married her husband Nicola Smarra, with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage this past August. Together with her family she immigrated to Montreal, Canada and then the United States and for the occasional trip returning to Italy for a visit they have lived here all their life. She applied her talents as a seamstress for Cottage Tailor and Worcester Coat Factory in Worcester for more than 20 years. She subsequently worked at Bradlees and Burlington Coat Factory as a Sales clerk prior to her retirement. Addolorata is survived by the family she loved so much; her husband Nicola Smarra; her two devoted sons, Domenic Smarra and his wife Anna of Oxford, Salvatore Smarra and his wife Elizabeth of Worcester; five grandchildren she cherished, Cristina, Nicholas, Sierra, Salvatore II and Lucia Smarra; a sister, Antonia Ventriglia; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both here in the United States, Canada and Italy. Her daughter Maria Smarra-Pierce predeceased her on December 31, 2012. Two sisters, Marianna Dellomo passed away January 4, 2013 and Alessandrina Amoroso, September 18, 2013. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dora was a hard worker with an unparalleled work ethic. Passionate about her grandchildren and her ideals she enjoyed tending to her flower garden; baking, cooking and most importantly her Christmas Eve seafood feast. Her family was her pride and she was her happiest being surrounded by them. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish. She will be terribly missed by a host of dear friends and extended family whose lives she touched. Family, friends, and others whose lives Addolorata touched are invited to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Her funeral will be Thursday, October 24, 2013, from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester where her Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester.
