Silvestris "Silvio" Latino, 85, of Worcester passed away peacefully Monday, September 23rd 2013 after a brief illness. Silvio was born in Worcester, one of ten children of Carlo and Maria (Castelana) Latino. He grew up in Worcester, joined the U.S. Navy during World War II to serve his country. Upon returning to Worcester Silvio met and married the women who would become his dear wife for the next 57 years, Claire A. (Norton) Latino. Together they settled in Worcester to raise their family. Upon Claire's death Silvio spent his remaining years living with his son and daughter. Silvio founded, operated and served as president of the S.Latino Sprinkler Company many years until retiring. Silvio's wife, Claire passed away in 2008; He is survived by the family he loved so much, his son, David P. Latino and his wife Deborah L.; daughter Carole Jackson and her husband Gary; two brothers, John and Louis Latino of Auburn; a sister, Sarah Lavin of Charlton; a granddaughter he cherished Allison Meehan; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Three brothers, Joseph, Charles, and Salvatore "Teddy" Latino and three sisters, Jean Brennan, Anna Dattis, and Eva Hill all pre deceased him. Silvio was a kind, gentle man who loved to make people laugh. He could always be seen at family functions, parties or children's gatherings in costume be it a nurse, caveman, Caesar, Charlie Chaplin or especially as a clown. The times he could put a smile on anyone's face were the special moments of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy in America, Greendale's retired men's club. He enjoyed golf, cooking, crafts, the Boston Red Sox, family and friends. He was also a handy fix it man who could repair anything. A memorial mass for Silvio will be held Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial next to his wife will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, care of the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St. Worcester The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
