Paul J. Layfulde, 81, of Mendon and Indianapolis passed away Saturday, September 21st 2013 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence with his family by his side. Born in Worcester, Paul was a son of John and Adele (Shusas) Layfulde. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School, joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving as a crash and fire rescue seaman aboard an aircraft carrier. Upon returning to Worcester he entered and earned a degree in education from Fitchburg State College. He then accepted a position with The U.S. Envelope Corporation rising through the ranks to become plant manager for the Indianapolis Plant before retiring. Paul's wife was the late Charla (Vogel) Layfulde; He is survived by a son, Paul Layfulde and his wife Molly of Dudley; two stepchildren, Eric and Erin Vogel; a brother, Milton Carrstedt in Florida and Jean Brigida with whom he lived; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Paul was a simple quiet man who dedicated himself to his work and his family. He was an avid golfer, loved saltwater fishing, basketball, NASCAR and especially Darts. He was a of the Indianapolis Darters Association. He was dearly loved by all and took great pride in helping people. He will be greatly missed. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Thursday September 26th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be private.
