Wilfred A. Spence, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2013 in Autumn Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center He was 78 years old and surrounded at the end by his loving family. Wilfred was born on April 3, 1935 in Worcester and was preceded in death by his father George E. Spence and his mother Margaret G. (Scott) Spence. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Dorothy V. (Taylor) Spence; a son, Craig A. Spence and his wife Anne of South Boston; two daughters, Carmen (Logan) Hicks of Worcester and Nadine F. Spence of Southbridge; a brother, Robert J. Spence of Florida; five grandchildren, James Hicks, Christopher Hicks, Hope Spence, Paige Spence and Taylor Spence; four stepchildren, Desmond, Morlan, Howard and Melvin Byfield. His is predeceased by two brothers, George O. Spence, Jr. and William H. Spence. Wilfred served our country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged 1959. Wilfred enjoyed fishing, jazz music and playing baseball. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Family, friends, and others whose lives Wilfred touched are invited to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13th. His funeral will be celebrated Saturday, September 14th at 9:30 a.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
