Carol A. (James) SantaMaria, 70 of Millbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 02, 2013 after a long three year battle with pancreatic cancer in UMASS Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. Carol is survived by her beloved husband of fifty years, John B. SantaMaria; two sons, Frank J. SantaMaria of Millbury and Christopher J. SantaMaria and his wife Andrea of Worcester; three daughters, Renee D. Chase and her husband Daniel, Marcia A. Courtney and her husband Shawn and Celeste A. Ford and her husband Neal all of Sutton; her mother, Florence (Williams) James of Millbury; three brothers, Robert James and his wife Linda of Holland, OH, Richard James and his wife Kathy of Sequim, WA., and Ronald James and his wife Kathy of Del Mar, CA.; eight beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Clayton, Abigail, Brynn, Emily, Taylor and Ethan; one great grandson, Jayden and a large extended family. Carol was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Edward James. She graduated from Millbury High School and has lived there all her life. Carol worked for UMASS Memorial Hospital as a file clerk in the gastroenterology department for eleven years before she retired in 2011. Carol was a member of Saint John's Church. She enjoyed being in her yard with her flowers and her fountain. She was a quiet, loving woman who loved being with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandson. The SantaMaria family would like to thank all the staff at UMASS Hospital's 3 ICU for the care given to Carol during her time of need. Services for Carol will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 5th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
