David D. Haig, III, 54, of Shrewsbury and Millbury passed away peacefully Friday August 30th 2013 with his family gathered at his bedside. David was born in Worcester, raised in West Boylston graduating from West Boylston High School. Always a caring, comforting young man wishing to help people in need, he chose to enter and earn his degree in Nursing from Becker Junior College in 1993. David then accepted a position as a Registered Nurse for the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in psychiatry where he worked for many years before joining the St. Vincent Hospital staff for several more years before retiring due to illness. He leaves behind the family he loved and who loved him as much: His father David D. Haig, Jr. and stepmother, Barbara (Tibbetts) Haig of Shrewsbury; his mother, Christine (Paquin) Haig and brother John Haig of Worcester; most significant in his life, raised as his brother, Samson Asumadu of Shrewsbury; several other extended family members and a host of friends. Notably as David's grandmother advanced in age and needed assistance, he moved in with her in Millbury to care for and assist her before she passed. David was a member of the Massachusetts Nurse Association. He was an avid skier who would enjoy any ski resort he could, most especially Mount Snow. David's passion was tinkering and fixing automobiles and riding motorcycles. He particularly enjoyed riding his Ducati Italian motorcycle. He also enjoyed computers and billiards. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the Haig family from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday September 3rd in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral will be held Wednesday, September 4th from the funeral home with a procession to St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.
