Joseph R. Tomaiolo, of Auburn passed away peacefully Sunday, August 11th 2013 surrounded by the family he loved so much. Joe was born in Worcester, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth G. (Mastrorio) Tomaiolo. He grew up in Worcester graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and joined the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War Era. Upon returning home he furthered his education as a student attending Newbury College, Fisher College and Worcester Junior College. He married the love of his life, Jane E. Clary who would be his wife for the next 56 years. Together they settled in Millbury to begin raising their family. In 1995, they moved to Westboro and in 2001 to Auburn where they have lived ever since. Joe worked for the Raytheon Company as an electrical design engineer for over 37 years before retiring. He then worked part time as a funeral assistant for the Mercadante Funeral Home for several years before Raytheon asked him to return as a part time consultant. He later volunteered at the New England Science Center. Joe is survived by his devoted family; His wife of 56 years, Jane; his four children and their families, Barbara Venincasa, her husband Steven and their children, Angela, Joey and Julie of Westboro, Richard Tomaiolo, his wife Sheila and their children, Christina and Peter, Maria Misilo, her husband Henry and their children Erica, Michael and Brian, James Tomaiolo, Nicole and their daughter Gina; a great grandson Landon; Many extended family members and friends. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, and the Post 3, Italian American War Veterans. He was an avid golfer and found the most enjoyment in life beyond his family on golf courses here and while wintering in Florida. He loved music, movies and drawing. He had the talent to sit and free hand draw almost anything. Most important in his life was his family and friends. The ability to be close to them with his calming nature and easy manner drew everybody to love and respect him. Joe's funeral will be held Thursday, August 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street Worcester with a procession beginning at 10:30 to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will follow in St. John Mausoleum. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Thursday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial remembrances in Joe's name be made to a charity of one's choice.
