Joanne M. (Scalzo) Yacuzzi, 74 of Boylston, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. Joanne's husband of thirty-nine years, Vincent C. Yacuzzi passed away on January 28, 1999. She is survived by her son, Vincent A. Yacuzzi and his wife Angela of Massachusetts; her daughter, Nancy Ann Cosimini and her husband Alan of Boylston; three beloved grandchildren, Alessandra M. Cosimini of Boylston, Vincent A. Yacuzzi, Jr. of Miami, FL and Nicholas C. Yacuzzi of Massachusetts; an aunt, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joanne is predeceased by her sister, Cynthia "Sissy" Cosmo. Joanne was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Anthony and Nancy (Groccia) Scalzo and has lived here most of her life before moving to Boylston with her daughter twelve years ago. Joanne graduated from Commerce High School. She attended Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing later graduating from Worcester Junior College. Joanne worked for the Registry of Deeds and for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette where she was the Manager of customer service, telephone sales and telemarketing for twenty five years before retiring in 1994. Joanne and her husband were members of Pleasant Valley Country Club. She was a member of many organizations including Notre Dame Academy Mother's Guild, Saint John's High School Parents Association, N.E.N.A (Paper organization), the Circulation Managers Association, Worcester Women's Republican Organization and Worcester Art Museum. Joanne was a devoted member of Our Lady of Loreto Church where she volunteered for six and a half years in the parish center alongside her sister Sissy. She was the churches chairperson of the Christmas Bizarre and was very involved in many other events at the church. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 7th from 5-8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Joanne's funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
