Rudolph M. Szady, 66, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Tuft's Medical Center in Boston, after a lengthy wait for a heart transplant. Rudy is survived by the love of his life, his wife of thirty-four years, Barbara (Sharp) Szady; a son, James T. Murray and his wife Cindy of Sunbury, Ohio; two daughters, Kimberly Ryan and her husband Kevin of Pittsburgh and Susan Thorpe and her husband Bradford of Old Saybrook, CT; his mother, Nina Lee (Vermitski) Szady of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Megan, Amy and Alex Murray, Emmett and Ivy Ryan and James, Andrew and Alyona Thorpe; two dear cousins, Maryellen Szady of Holyoke and Linda Jordan of Chicopee. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Rudolph Szady. He graduated from Chicopee Comp. He earned his BA in teaching and history and earned a Master's Degree in History from American International College in Springfield. He taught high school history in West Springfield. He also attended Upsala College. Rudy owned Better Hearing Solutions for over twenty-five years. He loved to sail and was part of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he taught boating. He was also past Commodore of the Springfield Yacht Club. He enjoyed skiing, biking, sailing, scuba diving, certified parachute jumper. Calling hours for Mr. Szady will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 12 Noon until 2 p.m., with his Funeral Service following at 2 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will be held on Friday, July 26, with a graveside service at 12 Noon in Agawam Center Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
