Lorraine T. (Matton) DiReda, 87, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Shrewsbury Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine's husband Bartolomeo DiReda passed away on March 25, 2005. She is survived by two sisters, Eva Colvin of Grove City, OH and Delia Hunt of Idaho; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Antonio and Mary DiReda of Worcester; her good friend, Mary Tsefrikas of Shrewsbury; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Robert J. DiReda whom was killed in 1966 during the Vietnam War; two brothers, Alfred and George Matton. Lorraine was born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Albert H. and Angelina (Santos) Matton. She later moved to Worcester were she has lived ever since. Lorraine worked for the Worcester School Department at Lakeview School in there cafeteria for seventeen years before her retirement. She was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and she was a Gold Star mother. Lorraine enjoyed ceramics, doll making and collecting, crafts, sewing and cooking. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 24th from 10-11 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
