Gaetano D. "Dan" Scano, 96 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Christopher House surrounded by his family. Gaetano's wife of fifty-three years, Rita (Ethier) Scano passed away in 2001. He is survived by two sons, Thomas Scano and his wife Elizabeth of Worcester and Walter Scano and his wife Alice of Hopedale; five grandchildren, Derek D. Scano and his wife Rosie of Millbury, Danielle E. Morris and her husband Gary of Sutton, Melissa A. Person and her husband Robert of New Jersey, Bernadette M. Scano of San Diego and Matthew P. Scano of Boston; five great grandchildren, Alexis Morris, Anthony Scano, Adriana Morris, Santino Scano and soon to be Riley Person. He is predeceased by a sister and five brothers, John, Louis, Samuel, Mauro and Domenic Scano. Gaetano was born in Worcester, a son of the late Tommaso and Giacomina (Santore) Scano and has lived here all his life. He served his country overseas in Egypt in the United States Army during WWII while all five of his brothers served at the same time in different military branches. After his tour of duty, Gaetano and his brothers received funding under the G.I bill for the largest loan in Massachusetts which led to the first of several "Scano's" bakeries. In 1958, Gaetano and his son Thomas opened Scano's Bakery and Sandwich Shop, Inc. on Hamilton St. where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Gaetano was a hard worker who enjoyed watching the History Channel on T.V. and spending time with his family. Gaetano's strong work ethic and high family values epitomized that of the greatest generation. Services for Gaetano will be held privately.
