Frederick L. Schaffer, born in Hubbardston on June 11, 1932, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013 in Woonsocket, RI. He was 81. He grew up in Hubbardston and Worcester. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He had four children, Frederick Schaffer and his wife Donna, Brenda Collins and her husband Robert of Oxford, Marie Mulrain and her husband Robert of Worcester and Bernadette Schaffer, who died at birth. He leaves seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was married to Edna (Nideur) Schaffer for forty-nine wonderful years; Edna died in 2001. He was the son of the late Edward and Hazel (Stevens) Schaffer. Fred spent most of his life working in and around the Worcester area. He retired from Sutton Motors in 1993. He continued to work in his retirement, delivering parts for Foreign Auto Parts and for Sutton Motors. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and had a particular fondness for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and car #3. Calling hours for Fred will be on Tuesday, July 9 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment, beside his wife in Saint John's Cemetery, will be held privately.
