Rose L. (Porcaro) Sciascia, Walsh, 89 of Millbury Healthcare Center, formerly of Shrewsbury and California passed away peacefully Wednesday June 26th 2013 with her family by her side. Rose was born in Worcester, one of twelve children of Italian immigrants Antonio and Assunta (Letrenta) Porcaro. She grew up in Worcester, met and married John Sciascia also of Worcester. Together they moved to Shrewsbury where they raised their family, owned and operated Villa D'Oro Restaurant until 1969 when they moved to California. In 1977, John passed away and Rose returned to the Worcester area; she met and later married her second husband Martin Walsh. Martin passed away in 2004 and she has lived here ever since. She is survived by the family she loved so much; her five children, Rosemarie Pelletier of Charlestown RI, John L Sciascia, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Auburn, Ronald Sciascia and his wife Deborah of Spencer, Donna Locantore and her husband Anthony of Sturbridge, Robert Sciascia and his wife Deborah of Raleigh, North Carolina; two brothers, Alfred "Freddie" Porcaro of Worcester and Jerry "Bimbo" Porcaro of Shrewsbury; five sisters, Dorothy Kozlowski of Providence, Anna Frascola, Betty Anne Fortin, Margaret Ferraro and Barbara Blanding all of Worcester; 11 grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A grandson, Steven Zybas ,three brothers, James, Rocco and Arthur "Artie" Porcaro and a sister, Lena Dupre all pre deceased her. Rose was a member of the Maria S.S. Addelorata lodge of the Men's Biscegliese Society and the Worcester Lodge #168, Sons of Italy. She was an avid bowler, and liked to play bingo. Most of all Rose was a traditional Italian Mother, who cherished her Italian Heritage, passed it on to her children and grandchildren and cherished the family dinners, and holidays when everyone was able to be together and ability to offer anyone who entered her home something to eat. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, June 30th from 3 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Monday, July 1st from the funeral home with a procession to St Brigids Church, 59 Main Street, Millbury where her Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or memorial remembrances made to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
