Harold I. Swindell, 72 of Auburn, a devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully, Friday May 31st 2013 with family gathered beside him. Harold was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia, a son of Lorne F. and Neva J. (Jordon) Swindell. He grew up in Worcester, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade. In 1956, Harold accepted a position as a telephone repair technician with New England Telephone, remaining with them and retiring from Verizon Corporation in 1991 after 35 years of service. Harold too young and energetic to retire fully remained busy with family and work interests like Becker College as their Communications Technician, Umass-Memorial and as a funeral assistant for Mercadante Funeral Home. Harold is survived by his devoted wife Rosemarie (Reno) Swindell; his two children he dearly loved, Brigadier General Sean Swindell, U.S. Army and his wife Jerri Lynn in Virginia; Mary Beth Swindell-Mullane and her husband John of Suffield, CT; four grandchildren that were the inspiration in his life and who cherished him as well, Nicholas, Hanna, Sophia, and Santo Rocco; a brother, Laurie Swindell and two sisters, Lorraine Moynihan and Jean Swindell; Many nieces and nephews including Colleen Swart who was an extreme help during a difficult time, extended family and many friends. Harold was a 50 year member and 32nd degree Mason of the Morningstar Lodge. A 25 year member of the former UNICO Club of Worcester, the Telephone Pioneers Association, American Legion, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. Harold also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. With all Harold's interest, the one thing that stood out in his life was his devotion to family and friends. His wife, son and daughter's accomplishments, and the ability to be with his grandchildren, is what continued to be Harold's inspiration. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Friday, June 7th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Saturday, June 8th from the funeral home with a Mass at 9:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances in Harold's name be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Renovation Fund, 24 Mulberry St.
