George A. Dagnese, 84, of Worcester and Ft Myers Beach, Florida, former co-owner of Marie's Direct Mail, passed away peacefully Monday, April 15th 2013 in Ft Myers with family gathered beside him. George was born in Worcester, one of four children of Italian immigrants Gennaro and Carmella (Martocci) Dagnese. He grew up in the St Anne's Hill section of Shrewsbury Street and was educated in Worcester. He then Joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the period between World War II and the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, he then met and in 1951 married the women who would become his devoted wife for the next 61 years, Genova M. "Jana" (Bafaro) Dagnese. Together they settled in Worcester to raise their children and have lived here during summers and in Ft Myers Beach, Florida during the winters. Beginning his working years, George accepted a job for an aspiring business mailing service Marie's Direct Mail, where he worked for fifteen years before purchasing the business with Jana from its owner. They then continued to work together side by side for another fifteen years before retiring. George is survived by his wife Jana; the three children he loved so much, Diane R. Dagnese and Susan M. Cozzolino both of Worcester, Michael P. Dagnese and his wife Lynne with whom they lived during the winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. Four grandchildren who loved him so much, James, Gina her husband Justin, Samantha and Sara; a great granddaughter Isabella Rose: Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. His brothers, Vincent and Joseph and sister, Ann Sweeney pre deceased him. George was active in his community. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and one time Cub Scout Pack leader of Our Lady of Loreto troop 70. A member and past officer of the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 and Post #3, Italian American VFW. He was active with the business community as a member and past president of the Worcester Executives Association. George was known as a devoted family man and hard worker, who never let anything be put ahead of his wife and children. His family was his inspiration and life's enjoyment. His grandchildren and great granddaughter gave him great joy and made him smile whenever they were with him. A celebration of life memorial mass will be held Saturday June 1st at 11:30 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in St John Cemetery.
