Anita M. (Purretta) LaPointe, 96, of Holden and Key Largo, Florida, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully Saturday, May 25th 2013 surrounded by her loving family in the Millbury. Anita was born in Worcester, one of seven children of Italian immigrants Joseph and Francesca (Savasta) Purretta. She grew up in the Jackson Street area of Worcester, graduated from Commerce High School and Salters Secretarial School. She then met and married Marc A. LaPointe whom, she married and together enjoyed life for close to 60 years raising their family and living in Holden and the Florida Keys, before Marc passed away in 1999. Anita is survived by a daughter Jeanne A. Duggan of Millbury; a son, Andre J. LaPointe and his wife Susan with whom she lived; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Joseph Marc, Lisa, Kris, Tracy, Stephanie and Michael; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Several family members preceded Anita in death; her husband Marc, six siblings, a son in law, John Duggan Sr., grandchildren, Karen and John Duggan Jr. Anita began her employed career as a composer for the St Vincent Hospital before accepting the same position with the Paul Revere Insurance Company where she remained for many years before retiring in 1978. Anita's biggest Joy was her husband, children, grand and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed bingo, swimming, her occasional trips to Foxwoods and living in the Florida Keys, with the beaches and picking sea shells with Marc after retirement. She was gifted in music and loved to play the organ. Anita's funeral will be held Thursday, May 30th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 12:30 pm in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow next to her husband in St John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, May 29th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the funeral home. Anita's family would like to thank the Staff of the Millbury Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Anita during a difficult time.
