Naureen F. (Roche) Merola, 82, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2013 with family gathered by her side. She is survived by her children, James Merola of Boston, Patricia Merola of Milford, Connecticut, and Susan (Merola) Mobilio of Holden, along with her husband Mark, and their sons, Michael and Joseph Mobilio, and her great-granddaughter, Gianna. Naureen also leaves several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is pre-deceased by her brother, Walter V. Roche. Born in Worcester, Naureen was the daughter of Walter and Nora (Casey) Roche. She graduated from Commerce High School. In 1951, Naureen married Louis C. Merola. They settled in the Lake View neighborhood of Worcester where they raised their children. The two were married for 57 years until his death in 2008. Naureen worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Business Phone Service for more than 10 years. Later, she accepted a position with the City of Worcester as a clerk with the Department of Traffic Engineering. She was promoted to Office Manager and retired from that position in 1995, after some 25 years of service. Naureen was a parishioner of the former St. Margaret Mary Church, where she was a member of its Legion of Mary women's guild and also taught CCD. When her children were younger, Naureen was actively involved with school activities including fund raising and volunteer work at Lake View School and the former Sacred Heart Academy. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association. Naureen loved to travel, read and work with crafts. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Naureen cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, May 29th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605 Her funeral will be held Thursday, May 30th from the funeral home with a Celebration of Life Mass at 10:30 AM in the Notre Dame Assisted Living Chapel, 555 Plantation St. Burial next to her husband Louis will follow in St. John Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Notre Dame Hospice, 557 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01605.
