Patricia A. Aubertine, a longtime resident of Charlton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9, 2013 in UMASS Medical Center. She was 73 years young. Patty was born on September 17, 1939, in Wilmington, Vermont and was preceded in death by her father, Charles A. Aubertine and her mother Helen (Russell) Holmes. She is also preceded by her only sibling, Russell Aubertine. She leaves her best friend for more than thirty years, Patricia Butler, with whom she lived and engaged in many outdoor activities and traveling. Patty graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut, earning her master's degree. In her earlier years she taught English at St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg (at that time she was a sister of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary). While at St. Bernard's she was the Director of Drama and Speech and coached her teams to state, local and national first place titles. From 1980 to 1981 she taught English at Notre Dame Academy in Fitchburg, MA and was a program director for the Neighborhood Improvement Program in Worcester until 1985. Ms. Aubertine, in 1988 was appointed Principal at Trinity Catholic Academy in Southbridge. During this time she also was an English Professor at Central New England College. In 1990 she joined St. Peter-Marian Central Catholic Junior Senior High School where she took the position as the Assistant Principal. One year later she was appointed Principal, a position she held until her retirement in 2008. Patty was a deeply spiritual and caring woman champion of the underdog. She loved her students and facilities. She always worked beyond the school day to ensure her students achieved academic excellence. A true academic who sought to improve the curriculum of all institutions she worked for. She truly knew her students and loved them. She loved to travel and engaged in many outdoor activities. All things beautiful inspired and captivated her. She was the ideal travel companion, passionately exploring each destination. She made people feel special, and to her they were. Patty felt a deep responsibility to her community, volunteering for many organizations including support groups for the elderly at Great Brook Valley, Shelter for the Homeless and for prisoner support.
