Gennaro "Gerry" Ambrosino, 70 of Worcester, a longtime Massachusetts State Police Tailor passed away Monday, May 6th 2013 with his devoted family gathered beside him after a period of declining health. Gennaro was born in Bisceglia, province of Bari Italy, one of three children of Giuseppe and Rosa (Ricchitelli) Ambrosino. He grew up in Bisceglia, served in the Italian Army before immigrating to the United States as a young man of 23 years, residing in the city's Italian community of Shrewsbury St.. He then met and married the women who would become his wife for the next 48 years, Margherita (Sasso) Ambrosino. Together they began raising their children off Shrewsbury Street later settling in 1988 in the Grafton Hill section of Worcester where they have lived ever since. Gerry began his working career as tailor for the former Ware Pratt Company, Wallach's and Shacks Clothing before accepting a position with the Massachusetts State Police as a Tailor for the past 29 years. He also worked part time for the Men's Warehouse Company. Gerry is survived by his wife Margherita (Sasso) Ambrosino; his four children, Joseph Ambrosino and his wife Jennifer of Bradenton, Florida, Vincent Ambrosino and his wife Cynthia of Shrewsbury, Rosa Wyse and her husband Shawn, Nicole L. Watson and her husband Jason all of Worcester; a brother, Giovanni in Bisceglia; seven grandchildren he adored and who adored him; Joseph, Matthew, Dominic, Lauren, Victoria, Julia and Brooke; Many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, extended family and numerous friends. His sister, Margherita Monterisi passed away in 2011. Gerry was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. An active member and constant fixture of the Men's Biscegliese Society, where he could be seen daily, socializing with his quick wit, dry smile and constant laughter. Everyone would be aware that Gerry was in the room and would burst out in laughter at his needling and jokes. But, noting in his life made him happier than his family. With his Italian Heritage, his children, grandchildren, wife and friends were the center of his life and world. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Thursday May 9th 2013 from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Friday May 10th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. where his Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow in St John Mausoleum.
