John A. "Jack" Ruffo, 89, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Saint Vincent Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice I. (Bergland) Ruffo in 2008. John in survived by a son, Mark J. Ruffo of Worcester; a sister, Minnie Ciappenelli of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Nicole, Amy, Joseph, Sara and Anthony; five great grandchildren, Rocco, Nico, Alex, Juliano and Vinny; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Jay Ruffo; three brothers, George, Joseph, and Patrick Ruffo; and two sisters, Mary Ginese and Rita Doolittle. John was born in Worcester, son of Angelo and Jessie (Chioda) Ruffo, and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Worcester Boy's Trade High School and later served his nation proudly in the United States Coast Guard, during World War II. John was a licensed plumber by trade and worked for many years as a plumbing inspector for the City of Worcester. He was a member of Central Mass Plumbing Inspectors Association. Jack was a great athlete who loved to both participate in and watch sports. He was a family man who enjoyed cooking and laughing with all those around him. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Service will be on Monday, April 8, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
