Joseph J. Catino, 77, of Rutland, formerly of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday March 20, 2013 in the UMASS Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Rosalie (DeMaio) Catino, two loving daughters; Maryann Perry and her husband Tony of Shrewsbury, and Elizabeth Famiglietti and her husband Michael of Middleton, a brother Maurice "Moe" Catino of Worcester, and a sister Jeanne Romano of Holden. Four grandchildren that he adored; Andrew, Anthony, Madyson, and Victoria, and several nephews and nieces. Joseph was born on September 16, 1935 in Brooklyn N. Y. son of the late Alfonso and Anna (Gioia) Catino and came to live in Worcester many years ago. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade and Vocational School. And then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Education at Fitchburg State College. He served in the 181st Division of the National Guard. Joseph was a Teacher for many years at the Worcester Vocational High School and worked there for over 30 years as a Welding Instructor, he retired several years ago as the Head of the Welding Division. Joseph was a long time member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church, The American Welding Society, and also The Massachusetts Teachers Association. Joe loved spending his summers on the Cape and enjoyed golf, fishing and travel. When he was younger he loved to bowl and enjoyed the lanes at the Mt. Carmel Center. However his most precious times where those spent with his family, especially the grandchildren. He loved going to all their activities. Joseph was a real family man who will be terribly missed by everyone that knew him. Joseph's funeral will be held Saturday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. A Calling hour will be held from 10:00AM to 11:00AM in the funeral home prior to leaving for church. Inurnment will be held in St John's Cemetery Mausoleum at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt.
