Edward B. Carroll, Jr. 78 of Worcester passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Edward is survived by his son, Edward B. Carroll, III of Worcester; three daughters, Catherine A. Ferraro and her husband Francis of Worcester, Jacqueline M. Forrest and her husband Mark of Underhill, VT and Jennifer C. Fahlin and her husband Bill of Charlton; five grandchildren, Edward B. Carroll, IV, Brian Carroll, and Daniel DiRoberto all of Worcester, Rachel and Courtney Fahlin of Charlton and Nigel Forrest of Colchester, VT; a brother-in-law, George Turpin; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a grandson, Steven M. DiRoberto and two sisters, Nancy Turpin and Sheila Moffat. Edward was born in Worcester, a son of the late Edward B. Carroll, Sr. and Blanche G. (Moore) Carroll and has lived here most of his life. He graduated from Commerce High School. After high school, Edward served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He served in both the Vietnam War and the Korean War retiring as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force after twenty- one years of service on April 1, 1974. Edward then went back to school and received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Worcester State College graduating in 1978. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail clerk for over twenty years and retired in 1999. Edward continued to work after retirement for Austin Liquors as a bookkeeper. Edward had many enjoyments in life. He was an avid bowler and was a member of "Herbie's Hooligan's"; he ran many softball leagues one in particular was the Jimmy Fund Tournaments for the U.S Post Office. Edward also was an avid sports fan for the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was affectionately known by everyone as "Grumpy." Amongst all his enjoyments in life he was also very involved with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. They were his pride and joys and never missed any of their activities, games and even the dance recitals. Edward was a family man and a very proud grandfather. Services for Edward will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John Cemetery, Worcester. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
