Edward D "Big Ed" Gentile Sr.68, of Worcester died unexpectedly Friday March 1, 2013 in St. Vincent's Hospital with his loving family around him. Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years Carol Ann (Kuczka) Gentile, two sons Edward D. Gentile Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Leominster, and Daniel S. Gentile and his wife Melissa of Worcester, four grandchildren; Zaakary, Hailey, Alex, and David. Ed also leaves two brothers, Walter Doucette in Florida and Leonard Gentile of Arizona, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son Robert Gentile in 1988, and a brother William Gentile. Edward was born in Waltham son of the late Romeo P. and Lillian (Amirault) Gentile and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of Waltham Vocational High School, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Ed worked for the Stop & Shop Company as a produce manager for almost 40 years before he retired. He was a member of the local #1445 Union. He was a long time member and coach for the Jack Barry Little League and Babe Ruth East Side Little League teams. Ed was instrumental in the forming of "Bobby's Gang" which was named after his son. Edward was a skilled carpenter and made many different and high quality pieces of furniture for many people. He loved puttering around his workshop and being able to repair anything that needed to be fixed. However his most treasured times were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Edward's funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00AM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Visiting hours with the family will be held on Monday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the funeral home.
