Genevieve (Tanona) Kiefer, 90, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Genevieve's husband of over fifty years, Conrad J. Kiefer, Jr. passed away November 16, 1999. She is survived by a son, Mark B. Kiefer of Dennis, MA; four daughters, Donna Burke of Marshfield, Cynthia Ickes of Bedford, NH., Maura Kiefer of St. Petersburg, FL., and Karen Hassett of Oxford; two sisters, Frances DiMeo of Worcester and Margaret Bruhn of West Boyslton; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son, Gary Kiefer whom passed away in 2012; a daughter, Janet O'Brien whom passed away in 1992; four brothers, Joseph, Franciszek, Stanley and Chester Tanona and three sisters, Renata "Irene" Vellecco, Jean Tomasetta and Malvina Tanona. Genevieve was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Walery and Amelia (Bujak) Tanona and has lived here most of her life. She graduated from St. Mary's High School. Genevieve was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked during World War II as a gun inspector for a military factory. Genevieve was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn. While residing in Florida, she was a member of St. John Vianney Church in St. Pete Beach. She loved sewing and cooking, traveling with her husband and her family. A memorial mass for Genevieve will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
