Genevieve M. "Genia" (Sylwestrzak) Aquino, 95, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 3rd 2013, rejoining her husband Sam; children Anthony and Jean and her brother and sisters in Heaven. Genia was born in Syracuse, New York, one of eight children born to Polish Immigrants John and Mary (Wiecorzek) Sylwestrzak. Together the family moved to Worcester where Genia grew up and graduated from Worcester's Fanning Trade School with a focus in Nursing. At the age of 20, Genia met and married the man who would be her devoted husband and partner of the next 62 years, Samuel J. Aquino. They settled in Worcester to raise their children and has lived here all her life. She began her career in Nursing as a LPN at St. Vincent Hospital in the Surgical Department many years before retiring. Genia's husband Samuel J. Aquino, passed away in January of 2009. Her son, Anthony S. Aquino passed away in November of 2004, and her daughter, Jean Nardini passed in May of 2005. She is survived by her son-in-law, Alfred Nardini of Duxbury; her daughter-in-law, Beverly (Ciullo) Aquino of Worcester; a sister, Wanda Renes of Gardner; four grandsons who cherished her, Paul Aquino, Stephen Aquino and his wife Karen, Trevor Nardini, Brett Nardini and his wife Erika; four great grandchildren, Cannon, Turin Jean, Ann and Kevin; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Thomas Sylwestrzak and five sisters, Irene Boccardy, Jean Kubicki, Vera Kuczka, Helen St. John and Clara Greyika also pre deceased her. Genia was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. A home body who loved her work, Knit and crocheted making items for and to care for her family. She cherished the times she spent caring for and raising her family. They were her life and inspiration. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday February 6th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be celebrated Thursday, February 7th from the funeral home with a Mass to be held at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be private next to her husband.
