Earl A. Prentiss, Jr., 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 15th 2013 with his devoted family gathered beside him. Earl was born November 7, 1928, in Worcester the youngest of two sons born to Earl A. Prentiss, Sr and Mary (LaForce) Prentiss. He grew up in Jefferson, attended Worcester Boys Trade. He then joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War. Upon returning to Worcester, Earl met and on November 7th 1953, his birthday, he married the love of his life and devoted wife for the next 59 years, Rita J. (Trudel) Prentiss. He has lived in Worcester ever since. Earl is survived by his wife Rita, his five devoted children, Stephen E. Prentiss, Daniel R. Prentiss, and Nancy M. Prentiss all of Worcester, Jane M. Berube and her husband Ronald of Oakham, Joseph P. Prentiss and his wife Dianne of Shrewsbury; five adored grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, and Juliana Berube, Andrew and Benjamin Prentiss; Extended family and friends. A son in law, Lawrence Sironen, his brother Robert Prentiss, a niece Corrine Brooks and nephew Paul Prentiss all predeceased him. Earl is a 10th generation descendant of Valentine Prentice who came to this country with the Pilgrims in 1630. Earl worked as a machinist all his life. He worked for many years for John Bath Company, and finally for Fiba Corporation before retiring. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, January 18th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Saturday January 19th from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10:00 am in St Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shrewsbury Boy Scout Troop #227 or St Anne Church Human Services, both care of St Anne Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. 01545.
