Francis M.J. Burns, 57, of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, January 13, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital, after suffering a Heart Attack at home. Francis beloved wife Carol (Cyr) Burns passed away in 1997. Francis is survived by his devoted family, Daughters, Jenny E. Burns and Jamey M. Burns; Sons Anthony F. Burns and Robert M. Burns, all of Worcester; stepchildren Erik P. Cousineau of Worcester and Kevin L. Cyr in Florida; two grandchildren, Kassidy Jean Cousineau and Adelina Kailyn Burns; extended family and friends. Francis was born in Syracuse, New York; His parents were the late James and Ina (Palin) Burns. He attended Worcester Public Schools and joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Worcester, Francis earned his associates degree from Quinsigamond Community College. Francis then worked as a Nurse's Aide for the former Rutland State Hospital and Worcester State Hospital. The most important focus of Francis's life were the special moments and enjoyments he could spend with his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, Francis inspiration was his children. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, collecting coins and stamps. He also found enjoyment in reading, writing, sports and storytelling. A Funeral service will be held Friday, January 18th at 12 Noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial with Military honors will be held at 2 pm in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon. A period of calling hours will be held from 11:00 am to 12 noon prior to the funeral. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
