Mari Pina

Maria (Portillo) Pina, 101, of Worcester passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the St. Francis Home. Maria was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 18, 1911, one of five children of Jesus and Concepcion (Segovia) Portillo. She married Ramon Pina on February 11, 1934 in San Antonio and raised her family there. Her husband Ramon passed away in 1957. In 1984, Maria moved to Wilbraham, MA. to be closer to her daughters. In 1994, she moved to Jacksonville, FL. to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. In 2006, she returned to Massachusetts. She is survived by her children who loved her so much, Connie Vestal of Ludlow, Rose Marie Strout and her husband Edward of Worcester, Jessie Pina and his wife Francine of Jacksonville, FL., Roland Pina and his wife Kathy of Garland, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Maria's memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 1:00 pm in the Triumphant Life Church of Worcester, 166 Holden Street, Worcester. Burial will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery, Springfield, MA. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
