Rodney W. Lofstedt, 94, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in UMass Hospital. Rodney is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Charlotte (Lindblad) Lofstedt; a daughter, Sandra G. Erickson and her husband Lee of Holden; a son, Barry S. Lofstedt and his wife Sandy of Largo, Florida; five grandchildren, Janna, Kristofor, Karly, John, and Eric; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Lofstedt and two sisters, Julie Johnson and Martha Lofstedt. Rodney was born in Uxbridge, son of the late Y. Raymond and Julia (Corneilson) Lofstedt. He graduated from Worcester High School of Commerce and Worcester Junior College. He served his nation proudly during World War II and was a staff member stationed at McArthur's Headquarters in the Philippines. He worked as a Process Manager in the Machine Division at Wyman-Gordon Company, for many years, before he retired. He had previously worked as the Repair Service Manager at the former Harrington-Richardson Company in Worcester. Rodney and his wife were members of Belmont Street Baptist Church and he was very active in many of the church lay positions. Rodney and Charlotte were lauded in 2011 by the Town of Shrewsbury, for being the longest married couple in town. He was a member of Shrewsbury Post 238, American Legion. His services will be held on Thursday, December 20, at 12:30 p.m., with calling hours from 11 a.m. until 12:30 in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to Belmont Street Baptist Church, 25 Belmont Street, Worcester.
