Gerald E. Bowman, 77, of Webster passed away peacefully Saturday December 15, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Catherine M. (Ciccarelli) Bowman, two sons, Michael S. Bowman, and Kevin F. Bowman, two daughters, Laurie A. Bowman and her fiancé Harold Davis Jr. and Maryann Casamassa. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren; Michael G. Bowman, Miranda Casamassa, and Kayla M. Brace. Gerald is also survived by his 100 years old mother in law Mary Ciccarelli, one nephew and two nieces. Gerald was born in Salem, Ohio son of the late Glendon and Lucille (Long) Bowman and attended public schools in Ohio. Gerald was an outstanding Lineman and crew leader for Mass Electric Company for over 31 years and eventually retired from the Engineering Department in 1998. During his 36 years with the company Gerald also served as union steward for his local. After retiring he worked at the Blackstone National and Pine Ridge Country Club where he enjoyed his passion for golf. Gerald served his country in the U. S. Army for seven years, being discharged as a sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean War. Gerald was an avid Sports fan who enjoyed playing golf with his sons and many friends. He loved his cars, Yardwork, and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all spending time with his family and friends, he will be missed by many. The family would like to thank the oncology department and Dr. William V. Walsh, and Christine MiKule and the many wonderful nurses at UMASS Memorial Hospital Medical Center for the care and support given to Gerald. Also many thanks to Central Mass. Hospice, and their staff, who were so helpful and caring to the family at such a difficult time. Gerald's funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00AM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Calling hours in the funeral home are from 4PM to 7PM on Wednesday.
