Angelo P. D'Ascanio, Sr. 83, of Worcester passed away peacefully at home in his sleep Sunday, December 16th 2012 after a long struggle with Heart Disease. Angelo was born in Worcester, one of six children of Ralph L. D'Ascanio, Sr and Catherine (Lentini) D'Ascanio. He was educated in the Worcester Public Schools, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly and with distinction in Korea. Prior to his time overseas he married his sweetheart, Gloria Grady in 1951. He returned to Worcester County to complete his education through the GI Bill becoming a journeyman electrician. Initially settling in Grafton the couple moved to Worcester to raise their two children Angelo Jr and Lisa. Married more than 47 years, his sweetheart Gloria passed away in 1999. Angelo retired in 1991 but remained an active member of the Union I.B.E.W. local #96, for a total 55 years of service. Angelo was a member of St Peters Church, and a 4th degree knight of the Auburn Council Knights of Columbus, Bishop O'Reilly Assembly. He was a gentile hardworking man with a quiet smile, and a wry sense of humor. A notorious homebody, Angelo left the comfort of home and family in the summers for Camp Ellis, Maine where Gloria's family liked to assemble. He loved his vegetable garden, cooking, New England Sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox. Angelo's greatest joys were his family, notably his grandchildren. Angelo is survived by his son, Angelo P D'Ascanio, Jr, his wife Michelle (Burgess)D'Ascanio and their son Michael of Worcester, his daughter, Lisa G. Cataldo, her husband Dr. Thomas E Cataldo their children; Isabella, Giulio, Sophia, Lucia of East Greenwich, R.I., his sister, Catalda "Tal" Roy of Sterling. A grandson, Nicholas D'Ascanio, three brothers, Michaelangelo, Anthony "Tony" and Ralph "Muzzy" D'Ascanio, and a sister, Catherine Mulvey have pre deceased him. Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 19th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the Mercadante Funeral Home and chapel, 370 Plantation St. Angelo's Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 20th from the funeral home with a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 am in St Peters Church, 929 Main Street. Internment next to Gloria will follow with Military Honors in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
