Harry L Shays Jr

Harry L. Shays, Jr., 62, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 in Memorial Hospital. Harry is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Diamond D. (Dreyer) Shays, their children, Regina L Shays and her fiancé Kristofer O'Malley, Derak J. Shays and his fiancé Caitlyn Smith and Scott A. Shays and his wife Evelyn Hope all of Worcester. Three other sons, Paul E. Shays of Barre, David J. Shays and Peter Shays both of Worcester; a daughter, Lucy May Gostan and her husband John Gostan of Orange, MA; his mother, Phyllis E. (Mossa) Lavallee and her husband Arthur Lavallee of Saint Petersburg, Florida; nine brothers, Roger Shays in Arizona, Wayne Shays of Auburn, Philip Shays of Worcester, George Shays of Leicester, James Shays of East Brookfield, John Shays of Oxford, Brian Shays of Albany, NY, Todd Shays of Thompson, CT and Glenn Lavallee of Gardner; seven sisters, Debra Peters and Robin Shays of Worcester, Kathy Jo Bonneville of Thompson, CT, Cindy Bonneville of Webster, Lisa Shays of Worcester, Gina Shays of Thompson and Darlene Shays of Oxford; fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Harry Shays, III in March 2008, his father and step-mother Harry L. and Roberta Shays, and by a brother, Robert Shays. Harry was born in Worcester, and has lived here all his life. Harry worked as a driver for L& D Transport Company for many years, before he retired. He had previously been a cab driver for Arrow Cab Company. He enjoyed antique cars, his motorcycles and truck. Harry loved his family and enjoyed the special times they all spent together. He will be missed. Calling hours for Harry will be held on Monday, December 17, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 18, at 10 a.m. in Saint Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester, MA.
