It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia M. (Bianco) Mondor, 84, formerly of Spencer, who died on Monday, November 26, 2012 at her residence in the Emeritus at Eddy Pond. Virginia was born in Worcester on February 14, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Croce) Bianco. Her husband, John H. Mondor, died in 1965. She leaves one daughter, Cheryl A. Pizon and her husband Richard of Winter Park, FL; two sons, John A. Mondor and his wife Beth-Ann of Deland, FL and Robert M. Mondor and his wife Ann of Millbury, MA. She leaves one sister, Sister Carmelina Bianco, of Worcester; three granddaughters, Angela Pizon-Moore, Erica Mondor and Ginger Mondor, all of Florida; three grandsons, Christopher Mondor of California, Chad Mondor of Virginia and Nicholas Mondor of Millbury; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Pasquale Bianco, and three sisters, Rosalie Cosenza, Theresa Ferraiuolo and Helen Narciso. She graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1946, attended Worcester Girls Trade School, and completed many night courses at Quinsigamond Community College. Virginia's working career started at Woolworth Company. She gave back to the community as a Red Cross volunteer on the surgical ward at City Hospital. She later worked as an interior and window decorator at Denholm & McKay Department Store. She owned and operated John & Ginny's Laundromat in East Douglas. Virginia was a collector for the Worcester Medical Bureau, was certified as a Notary Public and served as treasurer for the Spencer Democratic Committee. She was politically active from 1960 to 1988. Virginia worked for 21 years in the Department of Public Safety at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center where she retired in 1997. Upon her retirement, she was an active community volunteer for the Fallon Clinic and Auburn Senior Center. Virginia dedicated many years as a first grade reading tutor for the Worcester Public Schools. She was known as "Miss Ginny" reading stories to children who could not see or read. For the past few years, Virginia wrote inspirational articles which were published monthly in the Emeritus Monthly Magazine. Virginia will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Calling hours are Friday, November 30, from 9-10:30am at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 30th at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Worcester. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
