John Solitro, 74, of Worcester died peacefully Tuesday November 13, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Giuseppina M. (Scirpoli) Solitro, a son Matthew Solitro, three daughters; Lucia McMahon wife of the late John McMahon, Maddalena Ducharme, Maria Clark and her husband Cy,two brothers Antonio Solitro and his wife Karen, Nicholas Solitro and his wife Dianna, two sisters Nina Santoro and her husband Michael, and Maria Piracci. John is also survived by his seven loving grandchildren; John, Matthew, Cote, Brendan, Sofia, Julia, and Cyril. Also many nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by three brothers; Marino, Giuseppe, and Michael Solitro, and two sister's Rose Meriano and Maria Ragno. John was born in Vieste,di Provencia Foggia Italy, son of the late Matteo and Lucia (DiRodi) Solitro and came to t,he United States at the age of 24. Before coming here he served in the Italian Army. John was a Machinist for the Kennedy Die Casting Company for 35 years before he retired. He was a long time member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, and also the Men's Biscegliese Club. John loved being with his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed being with his brothers in the Barber Shop, and a good card game with friends at the Biscee Club. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. John's funeral will be held Friday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Thursday (tonight). Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
