Joseph C. Mezynski, 81 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. Joseph is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Anne E. (Grigas) Mezynski; two sons, Steven J. Mezynski of Worcester and Daniel J. Mezynski and his wife Linda of Millbury; a daughter, Joanne M. Podles and her husband Christopher of Douglas; a brother, Vincent Mezynski of Worcester; two grandchildren, Stephanie Mezynski of New Orleans, LA and Daniel H. Mezynski of Boston, MA; a daughter-in-law, Cathryn Mezynski of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by eight siblings. Joseph was born in Worcester, a son of the late Frank and Sophia (Pikulinska) Mezynski. He resided in Worcester all his life and spent winters in Boynton Beach, Florida. Joseph graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and attended Worcester Junior College. He served his country during the Korean War for the United States Navy and trained in Newport, Rhode Island. He was assigned on the destroyer leader U.S.S Mitscher and was a plank owner. After his duties, he worked as a machinist and dye cast inspector for Wyman-Gordon in Grafton, MA for over twenty-five years before his retirement in 1989. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. He was also a member of the Greendale Men's Club, Millbury Senior Center where he loved playing cards and Worcester Senior Center where he enjoyed going on the bus trips. He loved traveling especially to his home in Boynton Beach with his wife, fishing and metal detecting. Services for Joseph will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester. Burial will follow with military funeral honors in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, October 5th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
