James E. O'Leary, 61, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in UMass Hospital, after an unexpected illness. James is survived by his loving family including his devoted wife of twenty-five years, Donna M. (Campanale) O'Leary; his loving children, a son, Jeremiah "Jerry" G. O'Leary; two daughters, Maria G. O'Leary and Erica C. O'Leary, all of Worcester; his mother, Theresa Shirley (Niddrie) O'Leary-Smith of Sanford, Maine; a sister in law, Rosalie Fiorino and her husband William of Worcester; a brother in law, Nicholas Campanale in Nevada; several nieces, nephews, a great niece and cousins, along with many dear friends. James was pre-deceased by his sister, Eileen O'Leary-Lewis. Born in Biddeford, Maine, son of the late Jeremiah Joseph O'Leary, Jr.; he graduated from Biddeford High School, before attending South Maine University, Quinsigamond Community College and Clark University. James career at Worcester City Hall, spanned twenty-six years; most recently working as Payroll Supervisor in the Auditing Department in City Hall, for the past nine years. He had previously worked as the assistant to the Election Commissioner and had also worked in the Treasurer's Office. He was a conscientious worker who never took a day off. He was a member of Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph in Worcester, where he was on the Parish Council and was actively involved in parish programs. He enjoyed reading, learning different languages, visiting Hills Beach in Maine and was a plethora of information regarding his "hometown" of Biddeford. Besides being a dedicated worker, he was a loving and devoted husband and father, who enjoyed sharing a good joke or something funny with all those around him. He loved his home-life and the opportunity it afforded him to be with his family and to putter in his yard. His family would like to thank all the kind people in the Cardio-Pulmonary ICU at UMass, specifically Allison, his nurse, for the special attention and care she bestowed on him and his family. Calling hours for Jim will be held tonight, Friday, September 28, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 29, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Biddeford, with be held on Monday.
