Catherine A. "Kay" (Donahue) Paladino, 82 of Paxton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. Catherine's husband of fifty-four years, Joseph P. "Red" Paladino passed away November 12, 2011. She is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Paladino, Jr. and John "Jay" Paladino and his wife Maria (Foley) of Worcester; her daughter, MariAnn Paladino of Paxton; a sister, Ann Donahue of Worcester; two granddaughters, Laura Paladino of Boston and Allie Paladino of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Cornelius J. Donahue. Catherine was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Cornelius and Catherine M. (Donoghue) Donahue and has lived here most of her life. She moved to Paxton in 2004. She graduated from St. Peters High School and later received her Nursing degree from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. Catherine worked as a nurse for many years for Hahnemann Hospital, Worcester City Hospital and also Worcester VNA before retiring in 1996. She was a member of St. Columba Church in Paxton and Hahnemann Hospital Alumni's Association. Catherine volunteered for the Worcester Catholic Schools Department where she received the Mother's Seton Award in appreciation for her outstanding contributions to Worcester Diocesan Catholic Education. She received the Special Friend Award from City Hospital Alumni Association of the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She was devoted to her loving granddaughters who were a source of great pride and joy. The Paladino family would like to thank Dr. Jack Kelly, Notre Dame Hospice and especially Mary Ann Messina, her friend and caregiver for the outstanding care and compassion given to Catherine in her time of great need. Services for Catherine will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Ave., Paxton. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 12th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
