Paul D. Morano, Sr.

Paul David Morano, Sr. of Worcester passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 after a brief illness. Paul is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Judith M. (Brosnihan) Morano; three children, Paul D. Morano, Jr. and his wife Andrea (Guerra) Morano, Tara L. Porcaro and her husband Frank A. Porcaro Jr. and Melissa L. St. Pierre and her husband Donald D. St. Pierre Sr. all of Worcester; six grandchildren, Nicolas P. and Michael P. Morano, Leigh C. and Christian P. Porcaro and Donald D. and Tess L. St. Pierre; three sister, Antoinette M. (Morano) Kweder of Enfield, CT, Marie A. (Morano) DePalo of Shrewsbury and Barbara A. (Morano) Young of Shrewsbury; a brother, Victor J. Morano of Northbridge; several nieces and nephews. Paul was born in Worcester on July 20, 1941, a son of the late Frank P. and Anna (Police) Morano and has lived here all his life. Paul is a graduate of St. Stephen's Central Catholic High School. He attended Holy Cross College on a baseball scholarship from which he received a Bachelor's Degree. In both his Junior and Senior years, Holy Cross College won the NCAA Division I New England Baseball Championship and he participated in the NCAA College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Paul also earned a Master's Degree from Assumption College Graduate School and took graduate courses beyond his Master's at Worcester State College. Paul worked as teacher for forty five years. He began his teaching career as a foreign language teacher for Worcester Academy for nine years and Burncoat Junior High School for five years. He worked for numerous other schools as a foreign language teacher and department chairman which include Providence Street Junior High for five years, South High School for three years and Doherty Memorial High School for twenty years. Paul was a counselor for three years for Quinsigamond Community College Adult Basic Education Program. While working for Worcester Public Schools, Paul was there City-wide Foreign Languages Liaison and the City-wide Advanced Placement Liaison. Paul coached baseball, basketball and cross country for nine years at Worcester Academy and coached baseball for Holy Cross College for fourteen years. Paul received many honors which consist of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-City All -Star Team in baseball for two years and basketball for one year, the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Team and Sons of Italy Hall of Fame. Paul was formerly involved in many organizations including the Educational Association of Worcester, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. Besides those organization he was formerly involved with the Massachusetts Foreign Languages Associations serving on the Board of Directors, the Curriculum Framework Committee and their Assessment Committee. He served as the Chairman of St. Stephen's Elementary School Board and their Alumni Association. The fund for community enhancement at Worcester Academy was named in Paul's honor. Services for Paul will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, September 7th from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
