Nancy E. Gaudette, 66, of Worcester, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in UMASS Medical Hospital. She is survived by her brother, Arthur Gaudette of Phoenix, AZ; four nephews, Arthur, David, Jesse and Benjamin; her best friend, Frances M. Pierce with whom she made her home. She also leaves countless friends and acquaintances that will forever miss her. Nancy was the daughter of the late Arthur & Eleanor (Shea) Gaudette and was born in Beverly on June 30, 1946. She was a graduate of Beverly High School. She earned her BA from Salem State University in History and received her MS in Library Science from the University of Denver. Ms. Gaudette worked as a librarian for the Worcester Public Library for 38 years, retiring in 2007. Nancy was the first local history librarian in the Worcester Public Library. Nancy received many awards during her life time, including the Thomas S. Green Award for public service in 1996 and she also received the Key to the City on her retirement day. She had a special interest in genealogy, was an excellent cook, enjoyed traveling and gardening. She also enjoyed her annual visit to the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. Nancy has been acknowledged in numerous publications, books and theses for her research assistance. A memorial service for Nancy will be celebrated on Thursday, September 6th at 11 a.m. in the Hope Cemetery Chapel (located near the office), Worcester.
